About the Cantoria Area 
The
beautiful Moorish town of Cantoria is described as the
pearl of Almanzora. Set in the very heart of the Almanzora
valley, surrounded by red rock cliffs and mountains
covered in fir trees, extending down to the river Almanzora.
Cantoria sits alone in between the mountain pass and
river Almanzora however it is only 2 kms from the A-334
Huércal-Overa-Baza road and 35 minutes drive
to the beach.
Cantoria's roots go back to Roman times and it boasts
a rich cultural history from its Arabic past to present
day.
Today,
Cantoria is a charming market town with all amenities
provided and is thriving with new investments. Fortunately,
this has not spoilt its original charm. Cantoria’s
civil amenities include the public sports grounds for
football and basketball, a public swimming pool, the
local theatre and a library. The Cantoria outdoor market
takes place every Wednesday and includes local products,
clothes and African stalls. There is a new 24-hour medical
centre and an ambulance service, which provides cover
to the local area ensuring security and peace of mind
to the local residents.
The beautiful twin towered church dominates Cantoria
with its orange lined Avenues and public parks. There
are an abundance of lively cafes and bars providing
a relaxed and entertaining side with something to suit
everyone.
There
are various fiestas throughout the year that are generously
supported by the local council and businesses and give
a strong identity to Cantoria with its cultural dance
and music-shows. The famous firework fiesta is a highlight
of the year.
Cantoria boasts both junior and high schools, offering
a high standard of education with places in the schools
much sought after.
Cantoria is a thriving and strong market town offering
the chance to enjoy the real Andalucía with its
fine Arabic streets and plazas and white picturesque
farmhouses dotted around the valley sides. Cantoria
truly is the pearl of the Almanzora and offers something
